California Lawsuit Challenges Microsoft’s Decision to End Windows 10 Support
A California lawsuit filed by Lawrence Klein seeks to compel Microsoft to continue providing free support for Windows 10, arguing that the company's decision to end updates will leave millions of users vulnerable to cyberattacks. Klein owns two Windows 10 laptops that will become obsolete in eight weeks and is pushing for court-mandated support until usage drops below a "reasonable threshold."
Windows 10 still powers approximately 45% of the 700 million active Windows devices globally. Microsoft's MOVE to terminate support forces users to upgrade, purchase new hardware, or pay for extended security updates—a burden Klein claims many cannot afford. The lawsuit highlights an estimated 240 million PCs incapable of upgrading to Windows 11 due to hardware constraints, effectively coercing users into unforeseen expenses.
